        stefanjudis mastodon.social is the largest instance of them all and the one run by the founder(s)/the gGmbH. You can be quite sure that this instance is here to stay and reliable. That’s why many people choose it over smaller instances.

      stefanjudis On the other hand, it can also be a bit slower at times when lots of users are active. And a smaller instance that is built around a specifically topic or community could make it easier to find like-minded people.

    stefanjudis Especially because every mastodon instance also lets you consume a “local” feed with all public posts on that server.
