I still love Twitter for all the nice and brilliant people I met and the ideas and inspiration you can find and share. But it has changed so dramatically and I’ve seen so many people turning quiet or leaving completely, that I don’t know how long this journey will continue.

It has become a much quieter place and in search of engagement and attention driving the metrics, the algorithm prioritises what is loud and mainstream and people who have a huge following.

So it has become substantially harder for people with a small to medium following to get their voices heard and find a practical and creative use for the service.

It’s all about the latest sensation, the thing that the masses and the bots (!) “want”, will like, will retweet. This might be driving sales of ads because traditional online marketers are obsessed with quantity. But this is not sustainable nor is it ethical.

It doesn’t contribute to culture. It only makes a few people very rich. (And yes, this rant should be a blog post 😉)
