webrocker I think step one, which is getting it out of your head and into a shitty first draft (matthiasott.com/notes/ideas-on-writing-shitty-first-drafts) is crucial. But beyond that, I don’t know if there is a rule to follow. For me, it is mostly intuition that lets me decide if a piece feels “finished” or polished enough

webrocker If I write about a topic that is very wide-ranging (privacy, the personal website, the IndieWeb), I usually let the draft ripe for quite a long time, gradually refining it. But this is counterproductive if it is a single thought, for example.

webrocker And in most cases, you don’t know how people will think about what you have to say, anyway. So no need to keep it to yourself for too long. If the thought resonates, you can still decide to dig deeper and write a follow-up. And if it doesn’t, at least you wrote it down. 😉
