    1. 👉 -webkit-font-smoothing: yes or no? 73 % of sites still set it … to adjust how type on the Web looks to how it looks in your designer’s favorite static image drawing app? I’d say it’s always a good idea to not mess with the defaults, but maybe I’m wrong? 🤔 bram_stein/1574467426862829568

    The difference is minimal (there is no subpixel antialiasing in macOS anymore anyway since Mojave was released in 2018) and for black text on a white background it can even hurt readability:

      I remember the discussion 10 (!) years ago after a post by maxvoltar and later reactions of people advocating for not “fixing” font-smoothing. I still see it a lot out there – but 73 % percent of sites? Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate whether this should still be best practice…?

        Typography on the web is flexible and unpredictable, so every effort to control the output is limited anyway. Is using -webkit-font-smoothing maybe just window dressing? Are we trying to fix a feature? Or is it just fine (as long as it doesn’t hurt people’s eyes)? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
